A third pet project of the Rann Government will cost more than what taxpayers have been told – the Adelaide Film and Screen Centre at Glenside. The blowout follows revelations the Rann Government’s Adelaide Oval and Royal Adelaide Hospital developments will run millions over budget. Information available on the website of builder Hansen Yuncken shows additional expenditure beyond the $43m already budgeted will be required to completely renovate heritage buildings being taken over by the Film Corporation. The Hansen Yuncken website states: “Part of this building (the main building) will be upgraded for lease to businesses related to the screen and film industry. The balance of this building may be upgraded at another time with separate funding subject to screen and film industry future leasing interest. Other heritage buildings in the precinct are intended to be adapted at a later date…” Member for Bragg Vickie Chapman said the revelation that further money would be spent on the film corporation at Glenside was disgusting. “The Premier has already fast tracked $43m for this project while delaying the construction of a much needed mental health facility” Ms Chapman said. “I am sure patients, families, and staff involved with the mental health system will be sickened by the poor priorities of this Government. “Its bad enough the film hub is being built in the middle of the Glenside site, to spend more than the budgeted $43m while delaying and cutting funding for the hospital is criminal. “The Premier and Treasurer must come clean on how much additional funding will be required to complete the entire film hub.”
