Eight years of secrecy, eight years of perceived cover-ups and corruption under the Rann Labor Government will be go with the election of a Redmond Liberal Government.

Announcing the SA Liberals' "Transparency - Increasing Confidence in Government" policy today Opposition Leader, Isobel Redmond promised that the cornerstone of a Redmond Liberal Government will be honesty, transparency and accountability.

A Redmond Liberal Government will:
- establish an Independent Commission Against Corruption
- reduce the over application of suppression orders
- remove fees for some FOI applications
- provide increased whistleblower protection
- establish a Statement of Principles for Members of Parliament

Ms Redmond said public confidence in government and the courts has been damaged because of secrecy and a lack of accountability by the Rann Labor Government.

“It has become apparent over the last eight years that the Rann Government’s style has been to bully and intimidate anyone who voices opposition to their policies,” Ms Redmond said.

“A culture of fear has developed within SA amongst the public service and businesses reliant on government contracts - this is totally unacceptable and un-Australian.

“Far more suppression orders are made in SA than in any other Australian state eroding public confidence in the courts and promoting a perception of secrecy.

“A Redmond Liberal Government will move to ensure suppression orders automatically expire when a case ends unless an application to extend the order is successful.

“The community has a clear choice on the establishment of a corruption watchdog for SA - Premier Rann has refused to deliver an ICAC for SA despite the public demanding one.

“As Premier, I will deliver an ICAC and a transparent, accountable government which will reinstate confidence in and respect for pivotal SA institutions within the public sector, the courts and across all processes of government.”
