Documents made publicly available today have revealed the mothers and babies unit of the redeveloped Glenside Hospital will be attached to an old mortuary. A planning document on display at the Burnside Council shows a new post-natal depression unit will incorporate “the heritage building (mortuary) as a sensitive adaptive reuse”. Member for Bragg Vickie Chapman says the plan is outrageous and should be redrafted. “It would be appropriate to have an equipment shed or maintenance facility incorporating the old mortuary but not the mothers and babies unit. “The Rann Government has bumbled this redevelopment from the start. “They are building a film hub before a hospital, selling nearly half the site, chopping down tress and now they’re putting mothers with post-natal depression in an old mortuary! Ms Chapman also questioned the Government’s plan to rent property from the Chapley Group for drug and alcohol services. “The Government hasn’t even sold the land to the Chapley’s and they’re already planning on renting it back. “Tax payers will be placed at financial risk because the private developer knows the government must use their property.”
